Standards for Defense

In addition to fulfilling credit requirements, graduate students must pay attention to the requirements for obtaining their degree, such as the manuscript presentation format, setting a defense date, documentation, and plagiarism prevention.

Document template

The presentation of the document to be submitted follows the standard for texts produced at PUC-Rio, according to the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards. Date setting prerequisite

It is necessary that the defenses be conditional upon proof of submission of at least a manuscript to a journal ranked by Qualis (Capes). For Master's dissertations, accepted journals are from level A4 to A1, while for Doctoral theses, journals from level A2 to A1 will be accepted.

Plagiarism

In line with the University's initiatives to curb the recognized conditions of plagiarism In Master's Dissertations and Doctoral Theses, the Postgraduate Committee of the DEQM approved and recommends the following resolutions:

  1. One of the copy of the final version from the Dissertation/Thesis, already distributed to members of the Examining BoardIt should also be submitted in PDF format (containing only the body of the introductory text up to future work). PULL pre-textual, post-textual and bibliographical references ) at Postgraduate Secretariat of the Department of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 5 days advance notice of the scheduled date for the defense;

    2. For situations identified as involving plagiarism between 10% and 30%, approval may be considered, although it is recommended that, in this case, approval be "conditional upon compliance with the requirements set by the examiners."
  3. The final version to be submitted by the student must be checked again and, to be accepted and forwarded to the Dean's Office of the CTC, must contain less than 10% plagiarism;
  4. In order to contribute to these verifications, the DEQM will soon provide an access key to the Plagius Program for all professors working in Postgraduate programs (supervisors);
  5. Issues not covered in these deliberations will be addressed by the CPG / DEQM.

Post-defense

It is not necessary to submit a printed version of dissertations and theses defended at PUC-Rio, only the digital version. However, the following must be sent: approval terms PULL the signature of the Judging Committee and PULL to mention the sector coordinators.
