Coordinated by Professor Bojan Marinkovic of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering (DEQM), the Microscope Acquisition subproject will enable the purchase of the only microscopy equipment not yet available at the University. The scientific and executive teams, composed of professors and researchers from six different departments of the CTC, have proven experience in using the equipment, with publications in high-impact journals, in research of different kinds and in distinct lines of research such as physics, chemistry, biotechnology, materials engineering, nanotechnology, civil and electrical engineering.

– This is a high-tech, versatile, and multi-user piece of equipment that will enable studies in various areas of knowledge, benefiting the internal and external scientific and academic community, as well as national industry. The primary objective of the acquisition is to be able to keep up with cutting-edge international research in the areas of materials engineering, nanotechnology, biotechnology, physics, chemistry, and related fields, most of which depend on electron microscopy, explains the coordinator.

According to Professor Bojan, one of the objectives is to stimulate research in these areas of activity, all belonging to the technology areas prioritized by MCTI Ordinance No. 5.109, of August 16, 2021. "For undergraduate engineering students, the equipment will provide contact and practice in the use of experimental data; they will be able to use it in their research and experience activities in accordance with the new National Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Engineering Courses."
